At Skygate we undertake software/application development for organisations. Our experience ranges from substantial reverse-engineering projects and embedded systems development to simple web-based applications. Below is a summary of our competencies. It's not exhaustive but hopefully it will give you an idea of where our strengths lie.
Linux development - we have been using Linux extensively for at least 7 years. During that time we've written applications for Linux (for example our two-factor authentication solution, Two-Key™), contributed to the Linux kernel, installed Linux systems for customers, and even had our own Linux distribution aimed at the less experienced Linux user. We've always used Linux on our own servers and now that the Gnome desktop has an almost identical look and feel to Windows we're putting Linux on our desktops too.
Open-source development - we have been supporters of open-source software for many years. Open-source may not be a panacea but there are an incredible number of high quality, robust open-source tools, libraries and applications available which reduce development times and lower development costs. Open-source applications we've developed include Whisper™, our simple-to-use tool for encrypting private messages.Programming languages - over the years we have used many languages including C, C++, Java, Python, Perl, Postscript and many others. It should be noted however, that different languages have very different uses, strengths and weaknesses. We will always advise beforehand on the most suitable language for a particular project.
Operating systems - we have developed extensively for Linux, Windows, Solaris, AIX, and FreeBSD.
